Fernhollow Farm

Farm shop & veg boxes, open Wednesday to Sunday

Grown slowly, picked this morning.

Forty acres of mixed vegetables, orchard and meadow at the bottom of a quiet valley. Come and fill a basket from the barn shelves, or let us pack a box for your doorstep each week.

In the barn this week

What is ripe decides what is on the shelves. Here is what came in from the fields and the orchard since Monday.

  • Just in

    Crown prince squash

Blue-grey skin, deep orange flesh. Keeps on a cool shelf until spring.

    £2.40 each

  • Rainbow chard

Picked at first light, stems in five colours. Wilt it with butter and garlic.

    £1.80 a bunch

  • Russet apples

Rough-skinned and nutty, from the old trees behind the barn.

    £3.00 a kilo

  • Just in

    Wildflower honey

From our own hives on the hay meadow. Each jar tastes a little different.

    £6.50 a jar

How we grow

No shortcuts and no sprays. Just patience, good soil and a lot of walking up and down the rows.

  1. We feed the soil, not the plant

Compost from our own yard, clover sown between crops and no artificial fertiliser — the ground does the slow work.

  2. Hedges are part of the farm

Three miles of hawthorn and hazel shelter birds, bees and beetles, and the beetles look after our greens.

  3. Picked for the day, not the week

Most of what you buy left the field this morning. If it is not ready, it waits until it is.

Come down the lane

The shop is in the old stone barn past the duck pond. Park by the orchard gate and bring your own bags if you can.
